Our Story

Gude Management Group (GMG) is an Atlanta based provider of full service construction program management, planning and technology solutions. GMG integrates client project requirements into a standardized project delivery system that provides concise control and helps to mitigate risks.

GMG has a staff of forty employees which includes licensed engineers, architects and LEED & PMI Accredited professionals. The senior management core has on average twenty-five plus years of related experience in the oversight and management of large private and public capital and technology programs. Our client focused attitude is embodied in our mission statement “To assist our clients in realizing their vision.”

In 2008 the company was ranked as the 6th fastest growing private company in Metro Atlanta by the Atlanta Business Chronicle and recognized by the Georgia Branch of Associated General Contractors of America with the 2010 Build Georgia Award for the Atlanta Public Safety Annex, the first Certified LEED Gold facility owned by the City of Atlanta.

 

Leadership

Samuel L. Gude III, CEO

With a background that spans management, construction and contracting for a variety of industries, Gude is the chief visionary and driving force behind Gude’s success. His passion today is leading the organization to new heights and achievements through a commitment to superior service and delivery standards. Gude founded Gude Management Group (GMG) in 2005, after having served as Executive Vice President and Managing Director for a global construction management and general contracting firm. During his 25 year construction career, he worked on a number of landmark projects including the Centennial Olympic Stadium. During its first five years, GMG grew to over $1.5B of work managed annually under his leadership. His expertise comes from managing over 150 education, transportation, government, healthcare, sports, cultural and corporate construction projects valued at more than $3B.

After attending the Georgia Institute of Technology School of Industrial Engineering, Gude graduated from Mercer University with a Bachelor of Organization Leadership. He received his Global Executive MBA from the Georgia Institute of Technology and is an alumnus of Leadership Atlanta and Regional Leadership Institute.

Gude has a lifetime commitment to civic involvement and currently serves on the boards of the Atlanta Technical College Foundation, Georgia Chamber of Commerce, and CIFAL Atlanta. He also serves on the board of advisors for the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and Central Atlanta Progress and is a past board member of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority, the Atlanta Urban League, and the Metro Atlanta YMCA.

Steve Salmon, SVP Education

Salmon knows the details of educational facilities management intimately — he started his professional career as a teacher, local school administrator and assistant superintendent at the state and county levels. In all he has spent over 37 years helping school systems create and maintain optimal learning environments for children.

Salmon offers deep expertise in the all areas of educational facility planning. He served as the Georgia State Financing and Investment Commission Program Director where he led program management services for a $468M initiative across 180 districts. At Cobb County Public Schools, he acted as their program director for the 1998 SPLOST administration which included the planning, construction and renovation of over 100 school facilities and development of 12 new schools. He stayed on as administrator of the 2003 SPLOST program, overseeing $430 million in construction of new schools, additions and both major and minor renovation projects. Today, Salmon’s focus lies in helping clients maximize their investment in educational facilities.

Salmon earned his Ed.D. in Planning and School Business Administration after completing his M.A. and B.S. His passion for helping school systems raise the bar on performance is demonstrated by his involvement in the International Council of Educational Facility Planners and several local charities.

Matt Samuelson, President

Samuelson’s vision provides the impetus for the company’s growth and expansion. He offers a unique ability to guide and shape each engagement’s direction to meet the needs of all stakeholders. Samuelson brings to bear an expert understanding of delivery, operations and life cycle of facilities and improvements.

Samuelson’s 20 year career path began at Danis Industries, a heavy civil construction firm focused on water, waste water and infrastructure and continued as Project Manager on Beers Construction’s healthcare and education projects. He grew to President of CCL Associates, a regionally based program management firm, where he led the evolution of its brand and its offerings, culminating in projects totaling over $1B in development costs. Samuelson continued his dedication for program management in founding a firm that specializes in campus, recreational, performance and assembly spaces. He left the partners of his firm to become President of Gude Management Group and focus his energies on championing the company to it’s current position as a leader in the southeast. Samuelson graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering and received a certificate of engineering from Oxford University in England. His board member service includes Metro Atlanta YMCA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, True Colors Theatre Company, several local civic organizations and chairs the board of Velocity Productions, a technical and creative production company.

Tom Walker, SVP Transportation

With over 35 years of construction program management experience, Walker is the adept at meeting the challenges associated with large and complex capital improvement initiatives and projects. He brings a deep understanding of the nuances of the transportation industry to every engagement.

Walker’s impressive track record of success began in Chicago where he served as Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), Commissioner of the Department of Aviation, Executive Director for the Public Building Commission of Chicago, and Vice President of the Chicago Dock and Canal Trust. Before joining the Gude team, he led the team at UBM, Inc. as their President/Chief Operating Officer. As a result of his oversight and direct involvement, UBM revived and completed previously stalled projects totaling approximately $50M. Today, he is the vision behind several of Gude’s key projects including Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) GEC, Georgia Department of Corrections Headquarters/Training Center Relocation), the Noise Insulation Program for Hartsfield Jackson International Airport and Statewide Transit Consulting for Georgia Department of Transportation.

He earned his A.B. Art from Dartmouth College and Bachelors of Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology. A former Air Force Pilot, he still enjoys flying via radio-controlled models and mentoring others through various civic organizations.

David Scott, SVP Planning

With experience as project architect for 10 years, Scott brings a unique background to his role leading the Gude teams in the areas of program management, construction management and design. With an expertise in finding the best balance of form and function, he helps clients complete projects that exceed expectations. Scott brings with him over 30 years of experience in the development field. Prior to joining Gude, he served as President and CEO of DKS Program Management. DKS provided real estate development consulting services for urban development programs throughout the southeast. Scott was a designer and construction administrator for transportation, institutional, commercial and residential projects for a number of clients. Today Scott leads the execution of several key projects for Gude including the National Center for Civil and Human Rights (CCHR) and the College Football Hall of Fame (CFHoF) in downtown Atlanta. He is also directing large public management projects including the Glynn County Public Schools and the Georgia Department of Transportation MMPT. With a Bachelor of Science in architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Scott’s roots are deeply imbedded in urban revitalization. He enjoys volunteering his time with various local civic groups.
